What is your previous experience with Organic Agriculture and Sustainable Development?
Hola to all the good people of WWOOF Mexico! This is the movement to put humanity back on a sustainable track for future generations. I’ve been studying and practicing organic agriculture for three years: experimenting with an urban garden in Chicago, wwoofing at two small farms in Michigan, and also helping out at Deanne’s Strawbale Studio (http://strawbalestudio.org/). I am well-versed and skilled in sustainable design & construction, with 20+ years of experience in engineering, architecture, design and planning. In addition to concerns about health, ecology, and the food chain, my love of cooking inspires me to cultivate fresh veggies, herbs and berries near my kitchen, to share with all.
What are your reasons for joining WWOOF Mexico?
Learning about sustainable living and agriculture, Getting to know Mexico better
What do you want the farms and fellow WWOOFers to know about you?
I am passionately interested in the re-localization of economies… agriculture, building, energy, manufacturing, textiles, medicine, journalism, and the arts… authentic creativity and craftsmanship that come only from a Zen-merging of mind, body and soul. The People need to preserve and safeguard these knowledge bases and critical skills. We must take such matters back into our own hands as some industries are too important to be left to the profit motive that extracts true wealth (natural capital, clean environment, labor hours, genuine relationships) from the local economy. Rebuilding culture and communities from the ground up will be the next primary concern and enterprise of humanity. I am seeking to work with like-minded people to recreate human-scaled economies and humane modes of existence on this gorgeous, finite planet that is our source of all sustenance. My highest skills are in design+build… shelters, garden structures, furniture. So if you need affordable housing or a solar shower for wwoofers, a passive solar addition, chicken tractor… I am especially interested in helping in this regard. I’ve owned and run a small design/build company for 15 years and have strong business skills… web and graphic design, databases, marketing, cost estimating, project management. I gladly offer help in these areas if it would benefit your farm. Please drop by my website at www.ehrlum.com to view samples of my craft. I would also love to work with animals, especially horses. I have little experience with these awesome creatures, but would love to learn more about their way of being. I look forward to hearing from you. ¡Saludos! Gregorio *hablo un poco de español y estoy muy interesado en adquirir fluidez.

Hello Gregg, thank you for showing interest in our farm. We think your skills and experience would be a blessing for our farm. We have openings from the end of January on. We are trying to finish some green building in the next few months so we can open soon and sustain more people in the near future. Two eco-dry toilets, two solar showers and an outdoor kitchen. Please let us know if and when you would want to stay.

Hola Gregg, I'm sure there are a lot of wwoof hosts that would love to have your skills and enthusiasm.  I think you would like our farm.  It is a different climate and environment so you could stretch your skills with different challenges and materials for fun.  February may be a good time.  Our vegetable garden thrives during the winter months.  Write us at hwallycarlson@hotmail.com

Hi Gregg,  Thanks for the note.  I'm not ready to do any projects yet.  Have just bought a few acres near San Miguel Allende.  Can't do much with it until I sell my house here in Cuernavaca.  But, if you get to this area (30 miles south of Mexico City) you are welcome to stop by and use our guest house for a few days.  Would enjoy exchanging ideas with you.  Bill

Hi Gregg -

Thanks for your offer to help, but right now I can't say for sure if I'll be able to accept wwoofers in the next few months. Our beach was taken over by government troops on aug. 4 and we've been fighting to get it back ever since. I've got friends staying here and helping me, so I don't need any wwoofers right now. If you're still interested you can write to me again in Feb. and we'll see if the situation has changed. Good luck, dobie

Dear Gregg. Please send your email and write to me at t_osher@yahoo.com. I would love to hear your ideas about the invernadero-woodburning kitchen space I have started making attached to the house. Our philosphies matchup. My ideas are a bit rustic, Mexican style. Hope you want to come in January. The recycled tile bathroom pictured in my photo is just one of many artistic spaces I designed and built with help from amazing local masons, carpenters and welders. My budget is marginal, and sometimes close to non-existant... however where there is life there is hope.Do make an effort to communicate. We are the center of the Global Ecovillage Network in Latin America and you will be joyous visiting us, here. Hasta pronto. T.

PS Gregg I can easily teach you Spanish. Won't need tapes etc. Just come. Immersion and fun, cooking, laughing and music, adventures with campesinos, curanderos...whatever you want to learn, Mexico makes it happen. Ciau.
