We are looking for volunteers to help with a number of agro-ecology projects near Izamal, Yucatan, located one hour from Merida and 2 hours from Cancun. The Hacienda is on 97 Hectares of lowland tropical forest with a huge diversity of flora and fauna. The project includes a native plant nursery for reforestation, small scale chicken, pig and goat keeping, beekeeping with both native and european varieties, organic vegetable gardens, a medicinal plant garden, renewable energy projects, greywater treatment, composting toilets, traditional milpa, and food forest (traditional mayan solar). The project began in June 2010 and has the vegetable garden, goats, bees, pigs chickens, composting toilets, composting for the garden and tree nursery up and running. The other projects are in the planning process. Volunteers would share a kitchen and vegetarian meals and be provided with their own living quarters. We are looking for volunteers who are ready to work hard and are able to provide useful skills to the project. Volunteers would have the opportunity to work on various parts of the project depending on their interests and skills.

Hi! My name is AJ. I am 23 years old and come from Colorado. I`m currently living with a friend in Guatemala who is working in the Peace Core, and I want to travel to the Yucatan to work on a farm for about a month. I plan to arrive around March 10, and would love to help you on your farm!

I graduated from Colorado State a few months ago and took several classes in botany and plant identification. Plus, when I lived in Colorado I identified wild, edible plants and mushrooms for fun. As a result, I would love to learn about the tropical botany in your area. I also know a little bit about edible mushroom cultivation. I`m not as familiar with permaculture design, seed saving, fruit tree care and grafting, tropical polycultures, bocashi, biodynamics, greywater treatment and beekeeping, but these are all things I want to learn about and I am willing to teach myself if need be.

I`d love to help out in any way I can! You farm sounds very interesting.

Please contact me with any questions. I hope to hear from you soon!

My email is parliamentowl at gmail.com

Best regards,

A.J.

Hi Anna,

I have read about your farm and would love to work on it.  I am particularly interested in your tropical forest and reforestation nursery, vegetable garden and medicinal plants as well sustainable technologies, though everything sounds interesting.  Im generally interested in learning about sustainability, farming, and better ways of living. I love gardening and was part of the 'Gardening and Permaculture society' at University.  This will be my first wwoofing trip, starting on another farm in mid April.

I realise you are looking for wwoofers with specific skills, but I am very hardworking and motivated to get involved and learn.  If you have space and work that I could do (anything - whether completely routine or things I could learn) I would love the opportunity to take part.

I am free from mid May, and would like to work on your farm for 3 or 4 weeks.  However, if its more convenient that I come later on or for a shorter period that would also work for me.

I look forward to hearing from you, thanks,

Nasreen

I know basics, but I am / we are very keen to expand that. Leaving veracruz tomorrow so we can arrive sooner or later. Very excited to hear from you:)
