Natural building with recycled materials anywhere in Mexico.

I am interested in learning about building sustainable communities. Of course there are many ways to embark on sustainable community. My interest is using recycled materials and natural materials to build shelters, centers. Is there any farms using plastic bottles as building materials? Any farms using new and enovative types of building?

Hello Kirsten,

I worked at divertigranja and now help coordinate volunteers. It is a ranch in Oaxaca that indeed uses recycled materials and alternative building ideas. I helped make a few of the adobe rooms there as well as the dry toilets. I know they are trying to continue with heaps more. We were working with an organization in Oaxaca to aid the process. Very cool.

The ranch in general is awesome for the amount of stuff the owner (Hugo) lets you go for 100%. He's very open-minded and one of the most inspirational people I've ever met. If you like up close and personal with animals - that is certainly the place.

If you want to head over there that would be great. We are in need of volunteers right now. Because of the whole drug war hype ppl don't generally travel to Mexico as they used to. But having lived there myself for 2 years I can surely say super ok down south.

I agree that things are different right now because of the drug dilemma. Although I am interested in volunteering right now I am in northern California. I may be able to make it down there in November. Is that an option? and thanks for the response!

Hi there, i am living in guanajuato and traveling south for december to visit some farms that i would like to spend time working with. Thi farm in oaxaca sounds amazing and i would love to learn about and contribute to projects there. What is the name of the farm?? Thank you. Blessings, Leah
